From cool metals to textured upholstery, these trends offer a fresh and nuanced perspective on popular style elements. This year, embrace a sense of luxury with these 2024 design styles that will elevate your home’s sophistication.

Fluted Walls

A simple and versatile style, fluted walls add depth to any room while offering a unique, three-dimensional design element. They also offer a unique way to hide imperfections in the wall surface, making them an ideal alternative to painting or wallpaper.

Design pros are seeing a return to more traditional styles, focusing on timeless features that can stand the test of time. The resulting look is warm and inviting, with elements like woodgrain millwork and decorative wooden panels that evoke nostalgia.

With sustainability becoming a major priority for homeowners, 2024 is seeing a return to handmade and locally-sourced products. This trend extends to materials as well, with heirloom pieces and handcrafted finishes finding their way into homes across the country. These bespoke features give homeowners a sense of belonging and create a truly unique space that stands out from the crowd.

Illustrated Tiles

Whether you’re looking to add texture or a pop of color, patterned tiles offer an easy way to make a statement. Look for sun-kissed hues like yellows, oranges and burnt reds for a bold accent or opt for earth tones like muddy greens and burgundy for a more subdued effect.

Home design pros say this year, homeowners are seeking more natural, warm and earthy colors for their homes. Pale pinks, soft yellows and cozy browns work well as refreshing new neutrals.

While subway and rectangular tiles remain popular, a variety of rounded shapes are also emerging. Circular tiles are the perfect choice for a contemporary space and can be installed in herringbone, chevron or even pebble styles.

Global Aesthetics

This year, designers are embracing global aesthetics to craft homes that tell their own unique narratives. From African handcrafted sculptures to beloved Asian screens, these pieces not only elevate decor, but also infuse living spaces with a sense of identity and meaning.

Designers are experimenting with richly textured materials that captivate the eye and invite touch. From nubby boucle to shearling, these textures offer more than style, transforming living spaces into tactile, personalized havens.

Along with warm neutrals, designers are incorporating vibrant jewel tones. For example, this Chicago bedroom by Studio M Interiors features a swath of blue on the bed and walls. Meanwhile, this North Carolina kitchen by Griggs & Co. Homes combines warm white cabinets with soothing ocean-inspired shades for the backsplash tile and island base.

Corduroy

The cousin of velvet, corduroy adds a touch of elegance and luxury to living spaces. This plush fabric comes in a wide range of colors, from emerald green to deep navy blue and even black. This color trend promises to infuse living spaces with refined sophistication, notes Silver Spring-based interior designer Shannon Claire Smith.

A twill backing on corduroy gives the fabric extra structure and helps it hold dye more effectively. It also allows the raised wales to appear lighter and more closely bunched together than on a velvet garment.

To sew a successful garment from corduroy, determine which way the nap runs by stroking the pile parallel to the fabric’s selvage edge. Pants and skirts are usually worn with the nap running up, while jackets and dresses wear better with the nap down.

In 2024, this design trend embraces a mix of modern and classic elements for a look that feels both fresh and timeless. Experts on Houzz note that this trend includes handmade features like handmade tiles and custom bathroom vanities, which personalize homes and lend them a sense of character and individuality.
